Description

Curious Minds: Competent Citizens by Robertson Early Enrichment Program Inc. is hosting a 3-part work shop series, The Power of Documentation in Inclusive Practices. We will break down this workshop by discussing documentation, documentation in inclusive practices, and how the environment is our third teacher.

April 23rd: The focus of this evening will be on Documentation. We will discuss the reasons why we document and how it is an integral part of the Reggio Emilia philosophy. We will provide a variety of examples and explore where and how to begin. We will examine the process of keeping a record of learning and how it strengthens the relationships between educators, children and families.

We have invited a parent of a child with special rights, to share her experience regarding how documentation has allowed us to reflect on his learning processes and enhanced his social emotional development within the classroom.

April 30th: We will explore different types of documentation we use in our Inclusive practice. Have you ever heard of Play trees before? Chris Monkman, Child Development Specialist with Children’s disAbility Services for over 31 years will discuss this tool and how use it in our classrooms . We will also examine other pieces of documentation such a school transition booklets, social stories and how we strengthen family connections during our Individual Program Plan and Individual Education Plan ( IPP & IEP) meetings.

May 7th: We will reflect on ways to display the various types of documentation previously discussed and how to make it meaningful to the children and their families. We will examine why our environment is considered the third teacher and how we use loose parts at every age and ability! One of our parents will share their perceptions on how the environment has impacted their child’s learning.

Light refreshments will be served. Those who register for all three evenings will receive a 6-hour certificate of professional development completion.
